Upcoming Nike Kyrie 3 Pays Respect To Kobe Bryant & Bruce Lee

When you first think about it, Kyrie Irving and Kobe Bryant don’t have much in common with the late, great Bruce Lee. But when it comes to philosophical factors, you may see things a little different because they are bonded through individuality, focus and wisdom. This is especially true when you realize that both Kobe & Kyrie are inspired by Lee’s famous quote,”Always be yourself. Express yourself. Have faith in yourself.”

Kyrie Irving took notice to this connection for the first time when he was 17 years old while playing in the Nike Extravaganza. During this showcase, he tapped into his “inner mamba” and wore a pair of special edition Nike Kobe 5s that were inspired by Bruce Lee. And now, 8 years later, Kyrie is commemorating that moment and paying a tribute to his mentor, Kobe Bryant, with a special colorway of the Nike Kyrie 3. This special edition sneaker will be named the “Mamba Mentality” Nike Kyrie 3.

The “Mamba Mentality” Nike Kyrie 3 will feature several elements to bring a new twist to the Nike Kobe 5 that he wore in high school and remains to be one of his all-time favorite sneakers. The sneaker’s upper is yellow with black contrasts, paying respect to Bruce Lee’s trademark colors. The four red slash marks on the sides of the shoe are also a connection to Lee, most notably from the classic movie¬†Enter The Dragon. The medial side is snakeskin inspired, representing the black mamba while fading to samurai print on ¬†the lateral side which represents a metaphorical torch passing. This samurai print is similiar to the pattern used on the first Nike Kyrie 3 colorway that Kyrie wore in the Cavalier’s big win last year on Christmas Day Another unique feature of the shoe is the new “Kyrobe” logo on the tongue, fusing Kobe and Kyrie’s logos into one.

The “Mamba Mentality” Nike Kyrie 3 will release on September 15th at select Nike retailers like Nike.com. Be sure to keep up with Da Jay Way for future Nike sneaker news and more.
